PROGRESS | James Baldwin Centennial

Progress is a collage film created for the centennial of James Baldwin, developed for a live theater performance by poet and writer Cyrus Aaron at The Public Theater. The film juxtaposes archival and present-day protest imagery in stark black and white, blurring eras to unsettle expectations and collapse time. Set to gospel music and Baldwin’s voice, the work reflects on the persistence of racial injustice—and the faith and resistance that endure alongside it.
