GONORRHEA IS NOT PREFERABLE TO SYPHILIS | James Baldwin Centennial
Created for the centennial of James Baldwin as part of a live theater performance by poet and writer Cyrus Aaron at The Public Theater, Gonorrhea Is Not Preferable to Syphilis confronts the spectacle and cynicism of American electoral politics. Drawing from Baldwin’s speeches and archival imagery, and scored to an acoustic rendition of Hey Ya, the collage frames political choice as performance—exposing pandering, false binaries, and the hollow logic of choosing between “the lesser of two evils.”
